The Wells Fargo Plaza, formerly the Allied Bank Plaza and First Interstate Bank Plaza, located at 1000 Louisiana Street in downtown Houston, Texas, in the United States, is the center of Houston's contemporary skyline. Completed in 1983, it is the second-tallest building in Houston (and Texas).
The building's footprint forms an abstracted version of the shape of a dollar sign. Standing 992 feet tall with 71 stories of tenant floors and three levels of parking this green glass tower easily outdoes the JPMorgan Chase Tower with its two stunning, two-story sky lobbies. It is the tallest all-glass building in the Western Hemisphere. In 1983, Hurricane Alicia threw this all-glass skyscraper a somewhat ironic twist of fate, as the building suffered minimal facade damage in comparison to neighboring skyscrapers.
Wells Fargo Plaza is part of Houston's Skyline District, the citys corporate heart, home to abstract art and post-modern corporate monuments connected by a labyrinth of climate-controlled tunnels and skywalks - the Downtown Tunnel System. A 3-mile walk takes you through the buildings, underground, and high into the sky. Come on a weekday from 7am-6pm, when the lobbies are open and the buildings are buzzing with workers.
