Taipei's National Palace Museum is the pride of Taiwan, an island in the Pacific Ocean, 150 km from the eastern coast of mainland China. It ranks as one of the four best museums in the world, in a class with the Louvre, the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Its huge priceless collection of crafts covers 5000 years of Chinese history.
The National Palace Museum Taipei, Taiwan is an amazing modern building in traditional Chinese architecture. The unique, splendid architecture of the palace-style structure and its elegant roof is modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing and incorporates elements of traditional Chinese royal design in a feudal society.
Roofs play a large role in traditional Chinese architecture. The roof is also a status symbol. That's why so many ornament-forms, shapes of creatures like fish, dragons and other animals from the Chinese mythology, intended to beckon good fortune, are placed on the roof ridge to intensify visual effect.
